Understanding the Definition of Health Related Fitness




Being a Physical fitness Professional, it is my job to know terms and definitions which are commonplace to this industry, too to keep abreast of evolving trends. Through my experience, I've found that a number of terms deserve a bit more clarification than that that they are granted.

In addition to clarifying the definition of Medical Fitness, this article plans to shed some light on a few of the associated terms, and show their respective distinctions.

Would it be simply all in the name?

The fitness world generally seems to use the concept Health Related Fitness like a generic fitness principle - interchangeable with other people like "Physical Fitness", "Health and Fitness" or just "Fitness."

While these terms can be included underneath the broad term Health and Physical Fitness, they individually reference different aspects - both generic and specific. These elements are:

    Cardiorespiratory Fitness
    Body Composition
    Flexibility
    Muscular Strength
    Muscular Endurance

Alternatively, Skill Related Fitness Components are:

    Balance
    Reaction Time
    Coordination
    Agility
    Speed
    Power

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the meaning of Physical Fitness emphasizes the real difference between Health Related Fitness and health and Athletic Ability Health and fitness.
